TP-Link Tapo C520WS setup guide

Connect your TP-Link Tapo C520WS to Agentinosaurus, choose its video stream and set up the Events you want to watch for.

Compatibility

TP-Link Tapo documents local RTSP streaming for this model or its model family. Match your device’s full model and firmware to the sources below.

This guide is based on manufacturer documentation, reviewed on 13 October 2026. This model has not yet been tested hands-on with Agentinosaurus.

Prepare your C520WS

  1. Set up the camera in the Tapo app and keep it connected to your local network.
  2. Open the camera’s settings → Advanced Settings → Camera Account. Create a camera username and password; these are different from your TP-Link account.
  3. Find its local IP address in Device Info or your router, then use that address and the camera account in Agentinosaurus.

Choose the camera stream

Replace CAMERA_IP with the camera’s local address. If the example includes RTSP_PORT or PROFILE_NUMBER, replace those with your camera’s settings. Enter camera credentials separately in the connection form.

Use /stream2 for the lower-resolution stream. The main stream follows the camera’s configured video quality.

This list covers the named powered cameras. A Tapo brand name alone does not establish support for a battery camera.

Add it to Agentinosaurus

Your camera supplies the video. Station runs on a separate computer and connects that video to your workspace. Keep both on the same trusted local network; Ethernet and Wi-Fi can be mixed as long as the devices can reach each other.

  1. Install Station, pair it with your workspace and add your OpenAI API key.
  2. Create an Event describing what you want to watch for.
  3. Choose Add camera and your paired Station. Try camera detection first; if it does not find the camera, enter its local stream address and camera credentials manually.
  4. Assign your Event and choose Only on movement or Continuous. Try a simple visible action, then check Messages and the camera’s monitoring status.

If the camera does not connect

Check the local IP address, camera login and streaming port. A cloud-app password is not always the camera password. Reserve the camera’s address in your router so it does not change after a restart.

Guest Wi-Fi and client isolation can stop devices from reaching each other. A camera that works in its manufacturer’s phone app may still need local streaming enabled.

Test the same address in VLC on the Station computer. If it also fails there, check the camera configuration first. If it works there but not in Station, check Station diagnostics and try an enabled H.264 substream.

Keep credentials private. There is no need to forward camera ports on your router or expose the stream to the internet.
